Hi Michael , My name is Stefan from Belgium and I am verry new to the rc heli world. I've seen your course video about the pitch settings but I don't understand 1 thing. Your curve is 2 degrees negative to about 12 degrees positive. When setting an FBL ( Spirit FBL) you must therefore have a linear curve. ( 12 degrees negative - 0 degrees midstick - 12 degrees positive ) Not many people fly in our club Helis and they fly 3D , not scale . How do I change that 12 degrees negative to about 2 or 3 degrees negative without bending my curve significantly? I have a Jeti dc 16 transmitter. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I want to learn how to set it up properly. You will find very few videos for tuning scale helis and their transmitter settings. Thank you in advance Regards Stefan

Hi Stefan, this is by no means a stupid question! Here are my thoughts (and I'm sure others will contribute as well):
1. When setting up a radio for 3D flying the goal is to have zero degrees pitch at mid stick, full positive at forward stick and full negative at low stick. This allows the pilot to effectively fly the heli inverted with a full range of negative pitch (which is really positive when the heli is inverted). WE DON'T WANT THAT FOR SCALE FLYING.
2. Scale flying, as the name suggests, mimics full scale helicopters in that we will not be inverted and only need a couple of degrees of negative pitch to successfully autorotate should the need arise.
3. Your FBL should not have much, if anything, to do with your pitch curve. You will certainly establish your swash type, center servos and calibrate sensitivity in your FBL but the pitch curve should be set in the transmitter.
4. For setting up the pitch curve, the idea is simply to correlate low stick with, say, -2 degrees and high stick with, say, 12 degrees (models will vary) and mid stick with around 6.5 degrees (assuming you want to hover a bit below mid stick). Again, personal preference will dictate where in the stick travel you want to hover.
5. To do this, please refer to the Rotor Setup course here: https://scalehelipilot.com/courses/98943513-a739-4f73-abbd-b5f97efb...
In the Spirit instructions, they do, indeed, tell you to set your pitch for a 3D machine. You must ignore this. I have never used a Spirit FBL primarily because Bavarian Demon and Futaba gyros seem better suited for scale machines. There are controls in the Spirit to account for the size and nature of a scale bird, but I do not know how well the gyro performs in a scale machine. As with any scale helicopter you may consider the investment cost of changing gyros to one more commonly used in scale machines.
Hi Stefan, important note: if with 3D you land with the stick around center position, don't expect that with a scale heli you would equally put the stick full down! Depending the machine, this might result to wobbling/shaking at ground dues to very low or negative pitch.
So, with a scale heli, gentle reduce the pitch until well sitting on the ground.
Again, all depends the machine but if one day you see this behavior, you will be able to relate to this post, prior considering a mechanical or setup problem.
Hi Michael and Rémy ,
Thank you for the info .
As I mentioned I am a beginner in the rc heli world.
On the internet there are thousands of videos on how to adjust a heli but none regarding the settings for a scale heli.
Certain adjustments are self-evident for an advanced person, but very difficult for a beginner without basics.
A setup video with " how to program the transmitter and fully adjust the scale heli until it is ready to fly" would of course be fantastic and extremely instructive for me and the many others who want to get into the scale heli world.
But of course I cannot demand this of you.
Thanks
Regards Stefan
Have you watched this: https://scalehelipilot.com/courses/98943513-a739-4f73-abbd-b5f97efb...
Stefan, where in Belgium are you from? There is an impressive Scale Heli community centred around Francis Paduwat located in Ardennes... and Guy Vanderschelden (also a Vario rep) who is located in the Flemish part ... these two are legends in the scale helicopter world. I myself am no where near their levels but can help you in vicinity of Mons (Bergen). Klem
Hi Klem ,
Thank you for the information .
I live in Meulebeke, West Flanders.
I know both by name and from the "heli-days" in Basse-Bodeux.

113km north from me... If you need assistance this can be arranged. Sorry but I don't speak French though...
Hi Stefan, I speak french - you can send me a personnal message and we can have a call to discuss heli scale setup and more questions as needed. Just to review the important points before you meet in person someone in your region.
