Bavarian Demon 3X and jeti central box
I am setting up a 3X unit and was wondering if there is an option to remove the servo connection from the 3X unit and have the gyro work in a serial output mode. some of these digital servos are power hungry and the central box is made to deal with that.(bavarian demon even makes a big deal about this by requiring dual power leads with jeti in serial-in mode) but if there is no option to leave the servos plugged into the central box (or receiver for that matter) what is the point of having the central box or the bigger power management RX's? it seems that the fixed wing version of the gyro has that option explained in the manual, but I see no reference in the heli-version manuals. there seems to be a black hole in data on the internet for this information. am i stuck just using the servo outputs in this unit?

I have been asking similar question to much wiser people than I. General agreement is that CB gives power redundancy (2xLiPo connected to CB) and the possibility to connect other servos needed for retracts and additional functions of the helicopter.
Some use single wire connection, while others use the cable loom in order to provide additional power to FBL.
But regardless of the way you connect the FBL unit to CB the swash and tail servos must be plugged into the FBL unit as it provides the movement input to the servos. There is no other way.
If you are worried about the power supply to FBL unit, use the cable loom instead of single wire connection and it should be ok.
thanks for the heads up. that's a bummer. i guess i will just use an older R11 i have in house and use the loom to get a few extra paths for the 8.4V to make it to the 3X power buss. since they have it on the black cortex for fixed wing, we may see an updated product in the future maybe.
option B might be to use max bec i have and run the system at 6V but that woudl allow me to add dual 2s lipos for power redundancy. was kind of hoping to just run straight 2S though.
I run separate power for receiver (and other electric items) on all my helicopters. This notion that the propulsion batteries must also power the electronics streams from the 3D world where they need to reduce weight at all cost. In the scale world the receiver battery can be used to counter weight the whole helicopter. It also adds additional safety feature as the propulsion batteries can be drawn to the edge of capacity while the electronic battery does just fine. I just checked my setup on Lama. I did four flights (each used 50% of flight batteries capacity) but the 2S LiPo running the electronics used 7% of the capacity for all four flights. To me this is additional safety.
