With SAB Comet mechanics and using the same ratios as the HSM8, the helicopter is perfectly flyable but not for the novice. Unfortunately Roban's instructions are so bad they started urban legends.
After 10 years of building scale helis using belts, it works!

With a pair of 4100 packs (used for the clip), it will do 6:20 minutes. It's about efficiency too. A torque tube might be more efficient in THEORY but in practice the weight gain is more important. And tried to keep it low at less than 9kg. The Achilles heel is the heavy inefficient Fenestron. That's while other builders report the same flying time on 6000 packs. Flying in windy conditions is challenging and I would not rate it as a good design compared to Vario's equivalent. So for my next build, it will be an EC-145D3 1:6 with the 10 blade Fenestron. I will use the same building method as the H130 but it will be lighter with a more efficient tail and less dead weight in the front for correct CG.
Thank you for posting this! Your experience with Roban is virtually unmatched in North America!
Hi Romeo, It's been a long time since we last had a chat. I am now back in the hobby after a 4-5 year lay off and really look forward to getting back into Scale. I sold my Starwood Lama when I left the hobby and have since picked up a Vario Baby Lama which I hope to maiden this week. I also hope to get my Starwood Lama back, just working out the final details.
I have seen a number of your videos and have to say I am quite impressed relative to your mechanic conversions to Pod&Boom setups plus belted tails. Good work!
