Chapter 1

Stencil from the FDM printer

Apr 28, 2025

I had to do a few experiments first. I achieved the best results with a very thin print 2 layer (0.2 mm) and a 0.2mm Nozzel.
This allows for a minimum text height of approximately 2.6 mm.

It's very important to print directly onto the glass plate. This makes the back of the painting stencil very smooth (no roughness that could affect the flow of the paint).

The outer edges of the text must fit very well during painting.

Possible errors

Apr 30, 2025

First, I'd like to show you the result of making a few mistakes.

I simply applied the mask and secured it with masking tape.

I then applied far too much paint at once with the spray can from a relatively short distance.

So if the mask is not absolutely tight against the surface, the color will try to seep through.

Spray adhesive

May 4, 2025

A spray adhesive on the back of the mask ensures a firm hold on the surface to be painted.

After application, it should be allowed to dry for at least two hours. This allows the mask to be easily removed.

I store the used mask later on a non-stick paper.

Painting

May 4, 2025

It's very important to paint from a distance of at least 200mm.
Apply several thin coats.
Too much paint at once will have a detrimental effect.
