HeliStorm 2026 Go/No Go Poll
We are in the planning stages for HeliStorm™ 2026, which, if held, would occur on September 2-6, 2026 on the front grounds of the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Here are the variables that we are dealing with:
1. The USAF Foundation is unable to contribute funds to the event. Last time, they kicked in $25,000 so this is a large negative.
2. I am unwilling to fund the full $26,450 I contributed last year to cover shortfalls and still do the work to host the event. I will cover small shortfalls.
3. The schools in the Dayton area have indicated that they will not send students out on a field trip that early in the school year. Accordingly, there will be no full scale helicopter industry participation.
All of this means that HeliStorm™ would simply be a massive fun fly event with the following extras:
1. Exhibitors from the RC industry
2. Large central pilot lounge
3. Learning workshops
4. Silent auction with mobile phone bidding
5. Food trucks
6. Pizza party on Friday
7. Formal banquet inside the museum (with private touring)
8. Informal attendance by the general public (and accompanying promotion by the museum)
9. Bring your own tent
10. No on-site camping (other than by Darrell Sprayberry who would run security).
11. Relaxed flying contests judged by RC pilots
12. Pilot's choice awards in various categories
Please indicate your willingness/likelihood of attending the event. We expect the cost of attendance to run in the neighborhood of $165-195/pilot with no distinction between flying and non-flying pilots. All paying pilots (and their guests, who would cost less if they wish to attend the banquet and pizza party) are entitled to fly and have access to the flight line and pilot lounge.
This poll will help me decide whether or not to host the event. HeliStorm™ became the largest scale helicopter event in the world in its inaugural year. We can either keep that going or punt! (After you vote, please share this poll with anyone you think might want to attend).
What do you think?

National Museum is a great venue for this event. The museum is a great getaway if the weather is rainy or too hot. Its also a great place for guests (wives, kids, friends) to spend some time and not burn out on the event. I'm not yet a scale heli flier and I had a great time last year. The offerings were outstanding. If it needs to scale back, that's fine, I actually expected that. The event definitely pushed me into the scale heli arena.
This was my first event of this type. And surprisingly enough it was my wife who asked me about it and if I had checked into registration for the event and motel along with car rental. I also am not in the league of the scale flyers who were there and competed. We both came and enjoyed the event very much. We have already talked about going again this year (if it is held) . As I said I am not a scale pilot yet. I actually only got into the hobby last year in August. And my start has been bumpy to say the least. But my wife and I signed up for it all even though I was not a pilot at the event. There were many things that I was able to learn. And I am greatful for the people that I was able to meet and talk to at the event. This all being said we are looking forward to this, and cannot wait to see everyone there.
Based on the success of the 2025 event I wouldn't want to miss the opportunity to relive it again.
Epic event, close hotels, restaurants, beautiful field, closer to central US location. I hope it can come together.
Just joined the group and last year i found out about the event but it was to late so next year I'm going, I live close about 20 minute drive
Consider moving out to late spring? Schools and industries can participate, bigger time gap from the other big event.
I am definitely considering that!
In my opinion, it would be a complete shame not to have this event. Brings together so many pilots, and so many good times so many of us look forward to events like this.
Thank you for that feedback! I’m trying to make it happen!
I will be there can’t miss it
Registered for last year, but had to pull-out due to work-related reasons. I would very much like another opportunity to participate in Heli-Storm at the USAF Museum facility. Thank You, Dr. Ted
Don't know if my vote counted. Cuz the website you asked to accept or reject. But I'm 100% in and really looking forward to it. HOPE IT"S A GO
If you were shown the results, then your vote counted. If you don't see results, refresh the page and vote!
The venue was great but eventually I'd like a location more conducive to including full scale helis. (for static display)
How about Airbus in Dallas?
The Airforce Museum has hundreds of full size aircrafts, including helis. @michael Kranitz, Dallas is not central like Ohio, where you can attract pilots from both coasts.
I would suggest Davis California in May. 😊
Of course you would 🤣🤣
I love RC, but Heli scale is my #1 hobby, 2025 was best event I attended in RC world.
If anyone has some insight on the best way to transport my heli from the Vancouver BC to Dayton please PM me.
Are there other pilots in the area who might pitch in for a single transporter?
I appear to be the only Scale guy in Western Canada immersed deep enough in the hobby to consider going to Dayton.
