Rotory Stimulus for the Soul

The weather finally got nice! This video shows me practicing slow, controlled flight. Nothing fancy. Just fundamentals. Still knocking the rust off. I have found over the years that the less I think about HOW I am executing a maneuver the better it is and the MORE I think about it, the more I screw it up!

Our field is not great for large machines so I tend not to wring it out. Doing that leads to more violent inputs at field flight boundaries. For some, this style is boring. For me, it’s an exercise in focus. Yes, tail needs right trim. 😆 Video is unedited. HeliClassics Mi-171.
She disappears easily
My buddy caught a few seconds of my Mi-171. I haven’t had her out in quite some time! Love this machine!
Beautiful day to fly in Colorado!
It's snowing outside right now so all I can do is reminisce. Here is a short video collage of my favorite giant scale models doing what they do best!
Representing flingwings at Jets & Props Over Arvada.
Ignoring the stuck door, the machine performed well at Jets & Props!
Here are segments from my first flight of this enormous Mi-171 from HeliClassics. I bought this beauty from John Christensen and am still giggling like a little girl at how cool this model is in the air.
This was from Warbirds Over Denver 2023. Short demo flight of my HeliClassics Mi-171.
Pops flying the mothership today out at Chatfield! Thing is mean.
Had a great weekend at Warbirds Over Denver! More scale helicopters flew than any other time in the event’s nearly 20-year history! The first picture is a shot of my HeliClassics Mi-171 expertly captured by Robert “Bud” Gates.
Perfect day to fly the HeliClassics Mi-171 and practice maneuvers! Enjoyed flying with Randall Chrinka and Patrick Vestal (who both had Roban Hueys)!
My 3rd flight with this monster at Warbirds Over The Rockies. I was a bit nervous 😬
The decades old Warbirds Over The Rockies event, hosted by Brian O’Meara, handed out an award, for the first time ever, to a scale helicopter! Best Post WWII went to my recently acquired HeliClassics Mi-171, which I flew in front of a jam-packed crowd at Arvada Associated Modelers field in Colorado.
What is remarkable to me is the fascination and interest by grizzled jet veterans! More of us...

What is remarkable to me is the fascination and interest by grizzled jet veterans! More of us need to show up at these events and expose the cool models we fly. I think we can grow this segment of the hobby just by revealing what is possible. There are many skilled pilots in the US who can turn heads with their models and flying skills.
This is a longer test video. Mi-171 flight clip.
I am very excited to have acquired what I believe is the only HeliClassics Mi-171 in the US! I had to modify my van slides to accommodate the 29” main gear. A Robart cradle holds the tail nicely. The scale detail is stunning.
Got my first two flights in on this museum quality Mi-171 built by HeliClassics!
