Chapter 10 of 12

Blade Balancing

Oct 30, 2023

Hello Guys,

Thanks for all the inputs on the last chapter. I decided to take a critical look at the blade set from Align and spent some time getting them all the same weight and the CG equal. I typically do this from the start, but made the assumption that they were good.

When I went back and weighed them, they were within .1 grams of each other. But the CG was off all three blades. So I had a little work to do. I still use a gram scale (.01g), Koll Rotor Pro, lead golf tape and medium and thin CA.

In the case of these blades the CG was off enough that I needed to bring up the weight of the light blade to get the CG equal with the heavy blade and then added weight back to the CG for the other two to get all three blades within .01g of each other.

I sand down the area for the led tape and clean with Isopropyl Alcohol and attach the golf tape in the marked spot and then wick in thin CA along the edges and then when that dries I take a little medium CA and Q-tip over the same area.

I know you guys already know how to do all that, but if any of that sounds incorrect, then please let me know. It has worked for the few sets of Roban blades I have balanced and I have not had any issues to date. And the Roban blades required A LOT more weight to balance.

Anyways, I feel better that I took the time to re-look at the blades and check the CG. I will re-track the blades with the blades on this time using a standard blade pitch gauge today or tomorrow and hopefully get back out on Wednesday to test again, when it warms up to at least 59F!

The blades are not pretty anymore, but at least its on the bottom and hopefully this will help!
