Privacy Policy
Effective October 21, 2026
This policy explains what Kranitz Enterprises, Inc. (doing business as OwnTheCrowd) ("we," "us") collects when you use RCPilot at rcpilot.com, why, who else handles it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what it takes to run a community, we do not sell your personal information, and we use no advertising trackers and no analytics cookies.
1. What we collect
You give us:
- Account: your email address (for sign-in codes and the notices you choose), your first and last name, a handle, and the world you are most interested in. If you confirm a mobile number, we keep a one-way code made from it and its last four digits, never the number itself; the number goes to our text message provider to send the code.
- Profile, if you fill it in: a picture and a banner, your city, state or province and country, a motto, a short bio, when you started, and clubs, associations and designations.
- What you post: posts and their chapters, comments, reactions, poll votes, photos, videos, files, events, articles, courses and lessons, and what you keep in your hangar (aircraft, flights, checklists and their photos). Photos are resized and re-saved in your browser before they upload; videos and files are kept exactly as you upload them, with any details stored inside them.
- Activity: who and what you follow, who you block, reports you file, your notification settings, and the list of groups and forums you keep for sharing, and the private messages you send and receive.
Collected automatically:
- Security: records of sign-in attempts and request counts used to stop abuse, kept under a one-way code made from your IP address and deleted after a day. When the assistant runs for you, we record that it ran, with a code made from your IP address that changes every day, to keep within daily limits.
- Location: our hosting provider tells us the approximate location of your connection; we use it only to center the events map and do not store it.
- Push notifications: if you turn them on, the delivery address your browser gives for that device and the device's browser name.
We do not keep page-view analytics. Our hosting provider keeps short-lived request logs, which include IP addresses, for troubleshooting.
2. How we use it
- To run RCPilot: sign you in, show what you post, deliver messages, notifications and the emails you chose (notices, a daily digest, occasional announcements to pilots).
- To file posts: the assistant reads your post's title, words and up to four of its photos to suggest where it belongs.
- To keep pilots safe: stop spam and abuse, review reports, and enforce our Terms.
- To keep business records and meet legal obligations.
3. What other people see
Posts and comments show your first name and last initial. Your profile page shows your full name, picture and banner, city, state or province and country, bio, motto, clubs, associations and designations, points, followers, when you joined, and whether you confirmed a phone. The pilots directory lists pilots and can be searched by name, handle and location. Anyone who scans the code on one of your aircraft sees the aircraft, your first name and last initial, and your picture, with a link to your profile. An event's contact name is shown with it. Public pages can be found by search engines. Private messages are seen only by the two of you, with two exceptions: reporting someone from a conversation shares their last five messages with our moderators, and our platform staff can view the site as a member, look-only, to investigate a problem.
4. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers that run parts of RCPilot for us, under their own privacy and security terms, and only what each needs:
- Cloudflare: hosting, the database, file storage and network security.
- Resend: sending email.
- Twilio: text message codes. It receives your mobile number.
- Anthropic: the assistant. Your post's words and up to four of its photos are sent to Anthropic's AI service to suggest where it is filed.
- Your browser's push service (for example Apple, Google, Mozilla or Microsoft), to deliver notifications you turned on, encrypted so it cannot read them.
- OpenStreetMap: an event's location, to place it on the map. The events map itself is drawn by Google Maps, which your browser loads from Google.
- YouTube and Vimeo: a video's picture loads from them where a post links to one, and the player loads only when you press play.
- RCMarket: our partner marketplace, run by the same operator. One sign-in works on both, so your email and name pass between the two when you move across; to keep both safe, each checks the other for a banned email or phone number.
When a post links to another site, our server reads that page once to show a preview, without sending anything about you. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect pilots or the public, to enforce our Terms, or as part of a merger or sale. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. Cookies
We use a small number of first-party cookies, none for advertising: one that keeps you signed in; one that remembers the world you were last in; one that remembers how you like to read a story told in chapters; one that remembers your time zone for the game; and short-lived ones while you join or move between sites. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising cookies. Your browser also keeps a draft of a post you have not finished, and the site may keep pages you visited on your device so it opens faster.
6. How long we keep it
Account information is kept while your account is open. Sign-in codes are deleted within an hour of use or expiry. Photos you upload but never post are deleted after seven days, and a file nothing uses any longer is deleted within days. Records of moderation decisions and reports are kept to protect pilots.
When you delete your account under My Profile, we erase your name, handle, email, picture, banner, bio, location and settings, end every sign-in, and delete your devices, follows, blocks and notifications. What you posted stays on RCPilot, signed Former Member; the private messages you sent are removed, and the other member sees a line saying so. If you confirmed a phone, the one-way code made from it is kept, so the number cannot be used to get around a suspension.
7. Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile and delete your posts and comments at any time.
- Choose which notices you get by email, now or in the daily digest, or none, under Notification Settings, and turn push notifications off on any device. Every email has an unsubscribe link. Sign-in codes are always sent.
- Delete your account under My Profile. To see a copy of your information or to correct it, write to support@rcpilot.com from the email address on your account.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or port your personal information, and to not be treated differently for using them. We honor these requests for every member, wherever they live.
8. Security
Connections are encrypted, there are no passwords to steal, and sign-in cookies cannot be read by the page's scripts. Pictures and files are stored at addresses that cannot be guessed, but anyone with the address can open them. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
RCPilot is for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, write to support@rcpilot.com and we will delete it.
10. Where it is processed
RCPilot is run from the United States. Wherever you use it from, your information is processed in the United States and wherever our service providers operate.
11. Changes
We will update the effective date above when this policy changes, and give notice on the site or by email for material changes.
