The Conch

Aug 5, 2023

Well now. I have reached a milestone or was it a stone wall. Let me get back to on that one.

Over the past days I have finished up the upper cowl mold sections. These were pretty tough and took time to figure out. I wanted the cowls and fuse to have flanges to use magnets and pins to hold them in place opposed to a “shoe box” type cowlings. The upper cowls are 40” long. All these cowlings will be removable for access. There are 12 separate molds to make the upper cowls but all will come off for access in 4 pieces, race car, right and left engine cowls and the “whale tail” engine exhaust section.

The side fuse panels are the only remaining mold parts to lay up and the main fuse will be complete. Its taken about 3 gallons of epoxy resin and who knows how many yards of glass fabric ro get to this point. I am really looking forward to getting some fuses popped out.

Here are some pics over the past week or so as the mold sections were coming together.

As always thanks for dropping by,

UIH

Butch.
