HeliClassics Ka-52: Total Badassery

One of only two in the world designed, built and finished by Matthias Strupf, this badass helicopter now lives in Denver and will be beating the oxygen-deprived airspace as soon as temperatures and winds permit!

When It’s Too Hot to Fly

For Denver, 10 days of 95+ heat is noteworthy and enough to keep us away from the field (along with wildfires that closed the air space to make way for tankers and fire helis)! That means shop time!

I have been using the time for maintenance! Lube, bolt tightening, hangar rash touch up and general systems checks.

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING? 🤔

Ladies and gentlemen. This is what happens if you only get to fly once per month...
Nothing fancy just some flight circuits needing practice.

This is the last time I flew on this field in Belgium as I am relocating once more...
Just to give you some perception... the trees are 40 m from the take off point (25 at the closest point). Behind them is a rather busy canal and behind the canal is the...

More fixed wing than helis but I still love helis!

Had a great time getting to know Rene Gotiear from Lawton, OK. Rene is a FANTASTIC builder and a super nice guy. He bought my Mi-24 Hind, which, in turn, helped me acquire the KA-32 in the picture. The Hind was already safely ensconced in Rene’s car (his wife’s, actually).

I am a renaissance pilot who does it all
I repair, maintain and fly and only occasionally build

I am interested in scale, but not yet flying scale.
I just entered the scale realm and am very excited
I've been flying scale electric/petrol machines only for a short time
I am a veteran of electric/petrol machines but have not flown turbines
I am a grizzled veteran of turbine & electric/petrol machines. I regularly dream about them

I'm excited to announce that the ScaleHeliPilot shop is ready for action! I plan to record demo videos from here and post them on the site. The first video will be one that looks at the shop, the choices I made and some of the heartache involved in getting it just right!

I wonder if my heli habit is any different from my wife’s penchant for buying designer sneakers? We could both live perfectly fine with one or two but somehow that’s just not possible!

Sooooo I took my Bell 429 out yesterday to get some flights in. I should have just stayed home because it was WAAAAAY too windy to do any ACTUAL flying and enjoy myself. The 31 MPH wind blowing down from the north had that poor heli bouncing and being blown all over the place every time I turned it east or west. I ended-up just doing a bunch of hovering to drain the batteries so I could head back...
