Vario big Schweizer 300 build

Here's my progress on the Big Schweizer 300 from Vario. I just moved to Idaho, so waiting to get moved into our new home, but I'll post up more as the project progresses. I've modified the mechanics frames and installed a back FG panel in the cabin to allow the installation of a full cockpit from Patrick Leong. He and I collaborated on the first of it's kind fully detailed cockpit for this kit...

Vario Hughes 500C 1/5th scale

RCPilotVario Hughes 500C 1/5th ScaleWanting my models to look a little different from all the others was my goal with this Vario 500C. Mechanics and Electronics I wanted to use the Vario 1002/40 mechanics converted to electric, utilizing the Benzine clutch

Check out Jon's Hughes 500C article. Very instructive whether or not you are building this particular model!

H145 T2 1/6

First flight this year and a perfect flyer. The 10 blade fenestron is driven by a an HDT-3M belt. Head speed 1050 rpm, 9kg, 7 minutes on 3800 packs, that's the clip and the link is at 1100 rpm.
It is a perfect candidate for orientation flying. I fly scale speed in any direction like the full size.

Orientation flight

Happy new year...

It's not only nose-in or turning inside, it's scale flight at its best with the scale helicopter in all of it's full scale brother attitudes. It's quite easy with practice on standard tail helis (raised or straight) which have much better tail authority. Last summer I flew my new 1/6 Vario H145 which is a modified EC-145 with a Vario 10 blade fenestron. The new fenestron is...

Team up like with a horse !

With experience, well built and fine tuned helicopter, once can gain confidence and team up, like with a horse. Find my video, where I let it go almost every time once given the direction. Just smooth inputs to tell the intention. Per example, the high speed low passage over the field was done with almost no correction once altitude settled by ground effect. Just let it go, until deciding to quit...

Let This Resonate With You

I was lazy today and was almost too embarrassed to post this, but I concluded that my cautionary tale was more important to share than protecting my ego.

Last week, I took the 1/4 Lama out for a maiden since purchasing it from Gonzalo and rebuilding the mechanics and fuel system. On spool-up, the blades were not tracking well so I shut it down and went home. I replaced the head rods with...
