VH-92 Back in flight status

May 12, 2025

The VH-92 Patriot is back in the air.

Over the winter, the power train was inspected, some detail was added, entry door made and installed, walk platforms built and installed around the race-car area, the windows not used on the VH had fillers installed, the stab and support installed, sanded, body worked, primed, cleaned up some wiring and re-assembled. Sean was up this weekend. We had Saturday in the shop getting ready for flight on Sunday. We weighed that aircraft, minus blades, it tips the scale and 34.34 lbs including 2.4 lbs in the nose to get the CG in the ball park. The 2.4 lbs will reduce as the full cockpit is installed however as more detail is added I am sure things will move around.

Sunday brought a beautiful day however with some gusty winds to 16 followed by a nice breeze 5 to 8. Spooled the machine up to ground idle at 600 Nr, did control check then hit the switch to flight idle at 800Nr, added some collective and lifted off perfectly. First thing noted, the 14 inch stab was rock solid. With a "Slab-O-Stab" that big it was great "NOT" to see and vids. We did note a blade was flying a touch low which will be addressed during post flight checks.

The machine flew great. It was pulling a touch under 40 amps during the flight. The flight lasted 6 minutes with nothing too aggressive and landed with roughly 50% of the battery power remaining. It is estimated a 9 minute flight is well within the flight envelope. This is a testament to the design, simplicity and efficiency for the mechanics all in a compact platform.

Here is a video of yesterdays first flight.
