Vario 6 blade head
If I were to put one of these 6 blade Vario rotor heads on a heli swinging 900mm blades, what kind of servos would it require? Assuming a 120 degree 3 servo setup.
Thanks, T
Do not expose your blades to high temperature
See inside shrinked foam (used for rigidity while keeping light) after exposure to turbine gas exhaust. Pilot forgot to position the blade away from it..
Problem is that such damage isn't necessarily noticeable from outside, or underestimated.
To be replaced without hesitation!

I was lazy today and was almost too embarrassed to post this, but I concluded that my cautionary tale was more important to share than protecting my ego.
Last week, I took the 1/4 Lama out for a maiden since purchasing it from Gonzalo and rebuilding the mechanics and fuel system. On spool-up, the blades were not tracking well so I shut it down and went home. I replaced the head rods with turnbuckles and re-tracked it. I mention this because I could have tried to do these things at the field, but I know better.
Yesterday, I brought the Lama out for a second try. I spooled up and before I even reached mid-stick, she gracefully floated into the air. I actually exclaimed out loud that this machine was the smoothest I had ever flown (it seemed that way). I hovered and performed some initial flight maneuvers and was absolutely blown away by how it flew. I did notice that it had a slight backward drift in a hover and was slightly sensitive so I decided, after 3 minutes, to land and adjust the expo in the radio.
I landed, spooled down and adjusted the expo. I then went into the AXON menu on the transmitter and examined the agility settings; they looked fine for the bank I was flying in, but I could not find a way to trim the elevator from the transmitter. THIS IS WHERE I FAILED MYSELF.
Rather than shut down for the day or pull the deck and connect a cable to the AXON to adjust the cyclic trim, I told the guys around me that I was going to "cheat" and put in 3 beeps of forward cyclic trim. I was well aware of the rule that all trims should be at 0 but I had cheated in the past (likely with a 3X or 401 on the tail) so something in my head told me I could get away with it.
NOT THE CASE. Thanks to input from Gonzalo (full scale pilot), Danny Melnik, Tommy Dean, and Mark Smith, all of whom sent me to the internet to research ground resonance, I now understand why my lazy move was almost guaranteed to cause the mishap I experienced.
HERE IS THE LOWDOWN:
The AXON interprets trim commands as inputs. As such, the AXON sees the radio's trim as a constant, intentional cyclic input. While in the air, the AXON can correct for this. But, on the ground, the skids create a mechanical connection between the machine and the ground. As the rotor nears full speed during spool up, the persistent cyclic input can accentuate the natural frequency of the blades' lead-lag motion. This can cause them to move out of phase, shifting the rotor's center of gravity away from the axis of rotation. As the unbalanced rotor turns, the helicopter rocks on the skids (you can see this in the video). Once the frequency of rocking matches the blade frequency, you get resonance, which is SELF-AMPLIFYING.
THE LESSON: I can fix the damage to the model. I was able to shut down the system fast enough to mitigate the resonance and prevent a rollover. But there was no reason I had to experience this other than LAZINESS. I should have addressed the issue properly but in my desire to fly again, I overlooked an obvious rule of operating these machines.
I am sure many of you already know this rule (as I did). Yet, it didn't stop me from doing a stupid thing. I hope my experience graphically illustrates why -- especially with larger machines -- we should take nothing for granted and ALWAYS take the hard path of patience and deliberation before we fly.
I posted additional insights in the comments. This issue is one experienced by both full scale and model pilots. In the full scale world, instructors will most often NOT induce resonance for the student, but rather ask the student to observe what the instructor does in order to understand how to respond. I can say that having this experience has CEMENTED the learning in my brain.

2) No excessive play of ball links, consider experiencing another brand, some are more tight while still smooth, thanks to high grade polymer.
3) Consider replacing bearings if lot of hours

All my scale helis use similar pitch curves: -3, hover pitch, and +10.
I practice Autos on all types on a sim but only with my 700 pod and boom in real life. The exception being on a couple of occasions due to real life failures: once with my 40lb BK117 which was mostly successful with just bent rear struts and some cracked fiberglass. And a second time with my 700 size 14lb MD500 somewhat less successful due to a delay in actuating the Auto.
It has been suggested that -3 degrees isn't enough...at least initially, and the Auto curve should have something more than that as a starting point.
Thoughts?
Pushrods
Hello everyone. Once again, a newbie question… are you using easily adjustable pushrods for the connection between the blade holder and the swash ? If yes, what model/brand?
Finally finished building my Roban UH-1D Huey 800 size. These are shipped painted the wrong color so I did a total repaint, decals from Caligraphics, running 12s packs. Finally got the rotor balance kit on which gives it a much better scale appearance as well as added custom made steps on the front landing skids.
Hi. I am looking for a 3D printable file of a blade root for my vario head (Ord.No. 705/36). To ease the pitch setting in the workshop and fix the pitch gauge quickly. Does anyone have one ready to print ? I am willing to donate some subsidies if necessary.
Hi Guys...looking for help, advice, tips on setting up the scale Vario head on the Bell 47 that requires the 90 degree offset with an axon. Have the swashplate moving correctly according to simple diagram from Vario, not sure about axon software settings?? Any help would be appreciated. This one is completely new to me.. Thank you..

The year 2024 will also begin with changes for us:
After more than 20 years, we have decided with a heavy heart to stop producing rotor blades at the end of the year. We are already looking for a successor who would like to continue rotor blade production. The successor would take over all rotor blade shapes (several 100 pieces), original models, raw materials, and stocks of finished and salable goods from us. We also disclose a list of our purchasing sources upon acquisition. After the takeover, we are happy to call for a limited period of time. to be available for advice. If a successor can be found who already has experience in building rotor blades, that would be great. At least it should be someone who is no stranger to dealing with fiber composites.
If you are interested, please send us an email to info@derblattschmied.com.
In the coming days we will reopen our shop so that you can order all sets again - initially only in light gray.
QUICK TIP: How to ensure your pushrods from the swash to the grips are correct (even if the instructions are wrong)!
Does anyone have a source for scale blades other than Vario and Spinblades?

( 12 degrees negative - 0 degrees midstick - 12 degrees positive ) Not many people fly in our club Helis and they fly 3D , not scale . How do I change that 12 degrees negative to about 2 or 3 degrees negative without bending my curve significantly? I have a Jeti dc 16 transmitter. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I want to learn how to set it up properly. You will find very few videos for tuning scale helis and their transmitter settings. On the 20th September 2022, I purchased a 5 blade set of Spin blades for my 60-90 Size MD500E from Germany. After looking around for a very long time at different options, and what is available on today's market, the main thing I was looking for was a scale look.
The Spinblades did it for me because they are 40mm wide blade, long and skinny like a true MD500E. I got them to cut them down to 680mm for an extra 50Euro's, I asked if they could also paint them. They advise, yes not problem for another 50 Euro. As this saves me doing it. As we all know that a 5 blades set is busy in regards to CG, Weight, and then you need to track them etc.
I was told approximately 4 weeks to have them completed and I paid DHL world express to get them fast as it was coming up to Christmas. After 6-7 week I sent Spinblades a message on What'sApp and they said yes, all going well, the blades are in the proceed of being painted and will send them out soon. I replied, Thanks sounds good. Then 3 month later I got my blades and from the photo's below you can see the lack of quality and workmanship of the Spinblades.
In summary the blades are S**t and as you can see and Spinblades won't give me my money back because they are custom built blades, ( all their blades are custom built ) They said, send them back to us at your cost and we will look at them and IF they need to be fixed we will do it, and then we will send them back to you, and you will need to pay shipping again.
I am very disappointed with the quality of these blades and they lack of service.
WT
Sorry what?
To be honest, I dont want to send them back because what the hell am I going to get the second time around, if this is what I get as a first time customer. NOT A GOOD LOOK. The blades with shipping cost me $445USD. SO VERY DISSAPOINTING SERVICE SPINBLADES.
Hi everybody
Just about to finish my 315B Lama 1:4 and my question is what blades are recommended for the mainrotor, due to delivery and quality and type?

Has anyone had to modify the main rotor shaft and linkage for the scale build? I need a taller main rotor shaft and longer linkage. If anyone knows where I can get them or any other ideas? Thanks
Question for the group. I am adding a 5 blade head to my Trex 500 Pro. The stock blades are 425mm. Is it conventional to use the stock size when using 5 blades? Going inside a Hughes 500/500 size.

Namely the following:
When starting up the heli, I sometimes had a slight shaking up to the nominal speed and then vibrations in flight. I don't tighten the rotor blades too much, just enough so that there is resistance.
Interestingly, the phenomenon wasn't always 🤷♂️.
In any case, I finally figured out that the blades were still too tight.
So the leaves couldn't align themselves 100% I'll say again, they were always nice and flexible, not fully slammed 😉
Tests have shown that the looser the better. But too loose is also not good as the blades could fold in during assembly or transport to launch site etc.
Michael Rösener and I then developed the "Blade BlockerV3" 💪
In combination with the Vario Scale head and M Blades, a simple component was created that serves as a stop. The leaves only have enough slack to align themselves. Pre-run or post-run depending on the blade type must be observed.
In the meantime I leave the leaves quite loose. No vibrations, shaking or anything else when starting up, as it should be😊
Everything was inconspicuous in the air, actually more than perfect😍
Michael also tested the BladeBlockerV3 on his Big Lama and was really excited👍😊
The BladeBlockerV3 is from the 3D printer. In the middle there is a thread for a screw to press out.
The assembly is easy, just push in 😉
Maybe one or the other has the same problem 🙏😊
I'm from Austria and use the Google translator if the English doesn't fit 😉

Hello!
Just a little tip on how I am doing tracking of a multiblade head in a very easy way:
- Get a straight tube (I use carbon fiber) with the same diameter as the blade bolt, approx 30 cm long. Length does not matter, but the longer it is the more precise you can get.
- Add a wheel collar or similar to the rod as a stop mechanism
- Place the rod in the bolt hole in the rotor head

Job done!

The only 2 brands that I'm looking at are the Spin Blades that are Asymmetrical and a good price. The other is the Witte blades that are full symmetrical and more expensive. So we all know the difference between the two blades and both have pro's and con's.
The problem that I have is the gearing on my T-rex700N of 8.2:1. In Scale heli's it's all about LOW headspeed, say around 1300-1400rpm give or take. I was flying the X45H in Gov mode at 1900rpm ( with flybar ) and found the headspeed was always going up and down so I changed it to throttle curve and haven't had that problem anymore.
So the heli will be around 8-9Kg with the 5 blades on and full of fuel. So my question is, has anyone used 5 blades on an X45H yet? if so what blades? Will the motor overheat if I lower my throttle curve to get a lower headspeed? The black blades are Witte at 680mm long and 160g each blade the others are the Spin blades at 700mm at 125g each blade. Thanks for any help, Happy flying.
Update my Vario Lama to the scale head! The quality is quite remarkable! I did had to drill/tap on the top of the main shaft for securing the head beside the Jesus bolt. This is an early version of the Large turbine Lama .
Seacraft turnbuckles are killer!
When setting up tracking for the Lama, I needed to remove the blades because my digital pitch gauge did not span far enough for the massive blades. Instead, I attached the gauge to the blade grips. I also used Secraft turnbuckles to achieve identical pitch on each grip!
